Donna Johnson of Jackson, North Carolina in 1997. Education: Attended and played golf at Bridgewater College in Virginia from 1987-1989. He graduated with a Degree in Political Science from the State University of New York at Oswego in 1991. Currently attending Campbell University while working toward an Masters Degree in Business Administration. Enrolled in the Apprentice Program of the P.G.A. of America. Member of the Titleist Leadership Advisery Staff ...2003-present. A native of Pulaski, New York, David has had a passion for the game of golf since the age of 8. As a youngster, he would ride his bike with his golf clubs on his back to the local golf course with the money he had taken from his grandmother’s purse to pursue the game he fell in love with. Inspired by a former Touring Professional, named Jim Rusher, he developed his game and won several local tournaments as a teen. He went on to play collegiate golf at Bridgewater College where he received numerous awards including the National Golf Coaches Association, All Southeast District Team-1987, Virginia Intercollegiate All- State Golf Team-1989, and Men’s Golf Team Captain-1989. Turning professional his senior year, David competed in several events on the various Mini-Tours around the country including; The T.C. Jordan Tour, The Powerbilt Tour, and The Ben Hogan Tour, to name just a few. He moved to North Carolina in 1991 and started his career as a Teaching Professional. He worked at Cheviot Hills for four years, before becoming the Teaching Professional at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh. Teaching the membership and public at both facilities, he made the move to Pine Needles in Southern Pines, NC, in the winter of 2000, sight of the 1996, 2001, & 2007 US Women’s Open Championship. There he was named the Head of Golf Instruction for the Learning Centers and Golfari’s. When David joined the staff at Pine Needles, he instructed golfers of all levels, ranging from beginners to those who compete at the highest level on the PGA Tour. He has been regarded by his fellow professionals as possessing a “plethora” of knowledge in understanding the various methods and techniques utilized in golf instruction. As a result, his peers nominated him for the Palmer Maples Teacher of the Year Award of the Carolinas P.G.A. Section for the year 2000. Several of golf’s great teachers and a wide variety of information have contributed to his understanding. Perhaps some of the greatest influences on his career include; a “life-study” in the “The Golfing Machine, by the late Homer Kelley, the M.O.R.A.D. Investigation by Mr. Mac O’Grady, Master P.G.A. professional Michael Hebron, GSED of the Golfing Machine, Lynn Blake, fellow P.G.A. professional Fran Deschaine, and all the wonderful students who have blessed him throughout his 16 years of instruction. Possessing an attitude to serve others, David currently conducts seminars for his fellow P.G.A. professionals or those seeking to improve their ability to teach or play the great game of golf.
